The Versace Mansion

The Versace Mansion

South Beach,2018

I remember being about ten years old and roller blading past Gianni Versace's house, hoping to get a look at the famous designer my Godmother would always talk about. There was always a crowd of people in front trying to see past the gold-plated Medusa headed gates.

Gianni Versace was a famous fashion designer in the 80s and 90s. He was known for his bold and risqué designs. Being a very versatile designer; he also designed costumes for the Opera and Ballet- I love that about him.

Being able to visit the Versace Mansion is like a dream come true. Miami is my second home and tropical playground, I try and visit at least every six months for work or play. The weather is gorgeous, the culture is beautiful, and if you're a foodie, its a great city to be in.

Gianni called the Mansion his ‘Castle in the sand’ and it couldn't be more fitting. The Spanish style home is the 3rd most photographed home in America (cray) The iconic double gates to the Mansion are stunning and a mandatory photo-opp.

Donatella Versace, (Gianni's sister) sold the mansion three years after Gianni's assassination in 1997. The palace went through a few owners and was eventually auctioned off for 41.5 Million Dollars. Fun fact: Amongst bidders was Eric Trump who stopped his bidding at 41 Million. Jordache Enterprise having had the highest bid now own the Mansion. It is running as a boutique hotel/restaurant serving Mediterranean and Italian cuisine.

As soon as you step up to the gates, you're greeted by two doormen that check your reservation. Feeling like VIP, you’re escorted inside where you have the option to lounge by the bar or sit in the cozy patio area- perfect for date night.

The Mansion is just how you would expect it to be. Super high ceilings, intricate wall designs, and murals. According to vanity fair, Gianni spent 33 million in renovations after making the castle his. Even the bathroom was stunning, tall Mirrors, Spanish inspired chairs and gold plated fixtures; every girl's dream bathroom.

I recommend dining at dinner time. The lighting outside by the pool is beautiful at night; the ambiance is everything. The palm trees and being under the stars makes this experience the most memorable. It's Mosaic flooring lined with 24-karat gold (all imported from Italy) shows how much thought and creativity Gianni put into designing the Mansion.

The food was excellent, and the drinks were aesthetically pleasing. My girlfriend got the 24k Margarita; she said it was delicious. It comes with a sprinkle of 24 karat Gold confetti. I started with the Gianni salad, served with a vinaigrette so tasty you want to ask for a side of it and drink it.

For my main course, I had the Spaghetti Alla Chitarra; it was probably the best spaghetti I've ever had. The sauce was just the right amount of tomato, garlic, and fresh basil.

If you are around the Miami Beach area, I highly recommend stopping in for a cocktail and or dinner. There is so much more to explore in the Versace Mansion. I hope to visit again very soon and experience an overnight stay. I will definitely report back.
